RAE THREAT ART SHOW TO RAISE FUNDS FOR THAILAND TRANS DOCUMENTARY

LOS ANGELES – American born and Thailand raised, Rae Threat has already established herself as one of the most exciting artists in LA today.

Her alternative approach to photography uniquely combines the Underground Music, Adult Industry, and LGBT communities, with Queer Porn Icon Courtney Trouble even referring to Rae as a ‘Celebrity Photographer’ to the Feminist and Queer Porn world.

Rae is renowned for her ability to invert stereotypes and challenge views, becoming the first ever photographer to shoot Adult Film stars for a mainstream fashion lookbook (Mishka Fall 2011 and Spring 2012).

She has exhibited in galleries internationally from L.A. and San Francisco to Turkey, Vienna, and Berlin. Her first curated art show in 2011 (ALT to the ALT) featured key alt adult industry members Eon McKai, Courtney Trouble, Carlos Batts, and Kimberly Kane, and was featured as a highlighted exhibit with Month of Photography LA (2011). Her street photography work with GroupLA was also a featured showcase at the LA ART Show (2009) before being archived as permanent exhibits at the USC Library (Los Angeles) and Huntington Memorial Library (Pasadena, CA).

Since then she has photographed artists including Diplo, Skrillex, Major Lazer, Dillon Francis, A-Trak, Nadastrom, and Riff Raff; as well as having her photography featured in Richardson Magazine, Out Magazine, Mixmag, Marie Claire, and LAWeekly, amongst many other publications, including billboard advertisements.

Filmmaking marks the next logical progression for Rae as she continues to grow as an artist, challenging views and finding thought-provoking subjects.

Rae’s first feature film documentary will combine her Thai heritage and LGBT activism to explore Thailand’s trans community, in particularly its response to and effect on Western culture and media.

A fundraiser art show for the film, hosted by Lenora Claire, will be taking place Saturday, April 19th at Private Island. Prints will be for sale and there will be a cash bar. Donations are highly welcomed.
